Like the British Library, the National Library of Wales were keen to use the IIIF 2.0 compatible Universal Viewer for their collections. This required complete localisation of the user interface, and also the ability to pull appropriate language content from IIIF metadata based on the user’s choice.
Localisation was achieved using the Transifex platform which means that adding new language and locale support to the Universal Viewer is now straightforward. While any number of languages can be chosen by the end user, implementers in bilingual countries can pick two that can be toggled quickly.
We also recently enhanced the display of search results in the UV, especially for when displaying annotation search results on very large images such as maps.
